Dr Neil Gupta – Consultant Interventional Radiologist

Dr Gupta graduated from Imperial College Medical School in 2007 having also completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Medical Imaging with his dissertation on the ergonomics of minimally invasive surgical instruments, under the tutelage of Lord Professor Ara Darzi.

Dr Gupta then moved to the West Midlands for post-graduate training, completing Specialist Training in Clinical Radiology and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in 2015. He then undertook two Fellowships in Interventional Radiology at Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth, Western Australia, before taking up his substantive NHS Consultant Interventional Radiologist post at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.

Dr Gupta performs the full spectrum of Interventional Radiology procedures and has introduced specialised procedures including percutaneous tumour ablation, endovascular fistula thrombectomy and the eponymous GUPTAS procedure for enabling internal drainage of the gall bladder.

Dr Gupta is heavily involved with Medical Education and holds the posts of West Midlands IR Training Program Director and IR Lead for the Midlands Imaging Training Academy. He runs the annual “Midlands IR Skills Course” and “The Complete Chest Drain Insertion Couse”. He delivers numerous lectures relating to Interventional Radiology to various groups of medical & surgical trainees, as well as medical students.

Dr Gupta previously sat as the Chair of the Membership & Rules Committee at the British Society of Interventional Radiology and now sits on the Communications Committee. He also works as a Medical Advisor for NHS Professionals and as a Locum Consultant at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.

Dr Gupta is passionate about Interventional Radiology and raising awareness of the amazing things we can offer patients, who may not be suitable for traditional open surgery, or where a minimally invasive procedure may be a better option for patients.
